Bikram Yoga is practiced by more than three million people worldwide of all ages and physical conditions. By incorporating a regular practice of this unique form of Hatha Yoga, many have been helped to overcome serious illness and medical conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, chronic back pain, depression and menopause just to name a few.
Bikram Yoga is made up of a series of twenty six basic Hatha Yoga postures and two breathing exercises. They are arranged in sequence with each posture preparing the body for the demands of the next posture. The Bikram Yoga method stimulates muscles, ligaments, joints, organs, glands and the nervous system by moving freshly oxygenated blood through 100% of the body thus restoring the natural balance to all the body's systems. Bikram Yoga supports the entire body right down to the cellular level.
Bikram Yoga also supports the "Five Aspects of the Mind". This includes faith, self control, determination, concentration and patience. When one practices this yoga and has the positive experience of being able to do more than what is expected, ones confidence and self esteem gets a boost. This allows us to begin having more positive thoughts about ourselves while reducing stress and negative self talk. The regular practice of Bikram Yoga strengthens of the mind.
Bikram Yoga is practiced in a heated room which safely warms the muscles to prevent injuries which allows for a deeper workout thus facilitates the flushing of toxins from the body. Bikram Choudhury, creator of the Bikram Yoga method is recognized as one of the world's leading Hatha Yoga authorities. He began studying Yoga in his native India at the age of three and today has over 900 schools worldwide.
